Entries are currently open for our first ever creative competition, Daydreamer's Day Out. We're challenging you to tell us - through words or pictures or both - what your plans are for after lockdown. Anything is possible - any place, any time, with anyone you like. We want you to be as creative and original as you can, and by entering you'll be in with a chance of winning some great prizes!
Entries are open to all ages and abilities, and will all be judged according to the originality of your ideas. Entries cost £1 and can be purchased via contacting us on our Facebook page, or sending us an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
We can't wait to see what you come up with!
This site is dedicated to raising awareness of disabilities and additional needs, but it's also so much more than that. Our website hosts the electronic copies of our charity magazine - which come out once a month - as well as various resources for those with various additional needs and those who just want to learn more. In the navigation bar above, you can find links to our debut issue of Highland Inspire Charity Magazine, plus information about our team, our myriad of contributors, and some very good causes.
Although we may sound like one, however, we aren't a charity ourselves. Rather, we aim to provide a service for anyone who needs it, and encourage all of our readers to visit our Charities page, where we've curated a list of the charities we support. We realise many aren't in a position to make donations at the moment, but please take a look and consider spreading the word about the work all these wonderful organisations do.
Just because we aim to raise awareness of disabilities, doesn't mean you have to be disabled to benefit from this site (we hope!). Everyone, all around the world, is currently under so much stress, and mental/emotional wellbeing is now more important than ever before. So we're also hoping to create something that might help some people feel a little less stressed and worried - if you come away from this site feeling even a tiny bit happier, I think we can count that as a success.
Whether you have additional needs or not, we can all use a little distraction sometimes. Please don't feel guilty for wanting some time away from the daily grind and pressures of everyday life: we're here for you. The Resources page features a range of links to articles, videos or other sites where you can find advice and tips for a number of things, whether that be information about health conditions, or a 3-step recipe for a day when you don't have much energy.
We hope that this site will serve to help people in whatever way it needs to, and are trying all the time to improve it, both in terms of accessibility, and creating new content. On the navigation bar (above) you'll also find an option to 'View Accessibility Mode', which will simplify the site's layout to better suit those with learning difficulties, visual impairments, or anyone else who struggles with serif fonts or small typeface(s).
If, at any point, you find a glitch, please let us know! Also, if you ever need a place to vent, the Contact page holds a number of ways to contact our team. We'll always do our best to get back to you as soon as we can, and we're also more than happy to simply listen, if that's what you need.
Above, you'll also see a link to our charity magazine, where you'll find plenty of stories, poems, essays and interviews to satisfy your every reading need. While some of these pieces are from international creators, many come from the heart of the Scottish Highlands, where this project first began, and we like to think there's quite a bit of variety in every issue.
We release one issue a month, and while we have a sizeable range of pieces already, we're always looking for more. This could be anything from photography, to recipes or easy DIY projects, to motivational short stories and reflective pandemic poetry. So if you feel that you might have an idea that fits our themes (disability, positivity and general nice things), then send us a message or visit our Facebook page to get in touch. We'll be looking forward to it!
